Recently, 20 new geographical indication products in Dalian have been recognized and protected by the National Intellectual Property Administration. Meanwhile, 106 enterprises have been approved by the National Intellectual Property Administration to become legal users of the above-mentioned special geographical indication marks. As of now, there are a total of 45 geographical indication products in Dalian, and more than 200 enterprises are using the special geographical indication marks. The products cover three major categories and 25 varieties, including fruits, aquatic products, livestock and poultry, and coarse grains. The scope of geographical indication protection has been further expanded.

To comprehensively strengthen the protection of geographical indications and accelerate the establishment of a unified geographical indication recognition system, in accordance with the work requirements of superior departments, the Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau (Municipal Intellectual Property Administration), together with the Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Municipal Bureau of Ocean Development, carried out a confirmation work in September 2024 across the city on the accuracy of agricultural geographical indication information, the policy connection between agricultural geographical indications and geographical indication products, and the consistency of information based on the previous verification of geographical indication unified recognition and protection resource information. After being reviewed by the National Intellectual Property Administration, announcements on the recognition and protection of geographical indication products and the approval of the use of special geographical indication marks were issued successively.

To standardize the use of special geographical indication marks, the Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau (Municipal Intellectual Property Administration), together with grass-roots bureaus and industry organizations, conducted training in a relay style. Specialized training sessions were successively held in Lvshunkou District, Wafangdian, Zhuanghe, and Dalian urban area. The relevant regulations on geographical indication management in the city and the subsidy policies for the application and promotion of geographical indications were introduced in detail to the mark-using units. 106 mark-using enterprises were mainly guided on the standardized use of special geographical indication marks, and were informed of the serious consequences of the illegal use of special marks and the effective ways to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests. This effectively enhanced the intellectual property protection awareness of mark-using enterprises.

The Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau (Municipal Intellectual Property Administration) will strengthen the linkage between the city and districts, give full play to the role of industry organizations, guide enterprises using special geographical indication marks to use the marks in a standardized manner, improve the construction of the geographical indication standardization system, vigorously promote the application and promotion of geographical indications, and form an industrial pattern led by the government, self-disciplined by the industry, and participated in by enterprises. This will help the standardization and branding of Dalian's characteristic industries, extend the industrial chain, further consolidate the foundation of regional brands of characteristic agricultural products, drive the high-quality development of regional characteristic industries, and contribute to rural revitalization.
