It is reported that this time, infrared monitoring technology is also used for the first time to monitor harbor seals at night.

The change of harbor seal population is the vane of harbor seal protection achievements. According to reports, in the past, every monitoring required various guarantees such as ships, UAV equipment, and UAV pilots. The cost was high, the results were few, and there was no continuity. This has always been a major problem plaguing protected areas. This year, the bureau innovatively used scientific and technological means to protect harbor seals, and piloted the deployment of drone airports to achieve all-round and continuous monitoring of harbor seals. The drone equipped with an infrared thermal imaging lens can accurately capture the figure of harbor seals at night, and simultaneously generate image data and transmit it to the business management platform.

Within 4 days, the monitors conducted 25 monitoring times at two harbor seal landing points, and by applying infrared monitoring technology to monitor harbor seals at night, they preliminarily understood the daily activity law of harbor seal population: frequent activities during the day, and relatively few people resting on the beach; They went ashore one after another at night. At 2 o'clock in the morning, most of them were in a state of sound sleep and basically no longer active; The peak ashore appeared at 5: 00 a.m., including 135 heads in Xizhuangshi and 166 heads in Shixian Island, which was significantly higher than the same period last year.

According to reports, the experimental test of infrared UAV airport deployment has the advantages of non-interruption, automatic operation, real-time transmission, accuracy and high efficiency, and high cost performance. According to the preliminary prediction, excluding the impact of severe weather, about 3,000 voyages can be monitored every year, and the data can be compared and traced. In the next step, researchers will establish a database through the accumulation of big data, actively explore the construction of artificial intelligence model algorithms, conduct intelligent comparison and analysis of monitoring image data, master their activity rules through daily, monthly, quarterly and annual statistics of harbor seal populations, and apply surveying and mapping technology to re-count the body length and width of harbor seals, so as to understand the health status of the population and provide strong support for the protection of harbor seals.
