In order to promote the level of diabetes education in the community and improve the daily blood sugar prevention and control level of middle-aged and elderly people and diabetic patients, on September 24th, medical staff from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the Affiliated Central Hospital of Dalian University of Technology (Dalian Central Hospital) walked into Chunliu Community, Chunliu Street, Shahekou District to carry out diabetes science popularization public welfare activities.
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic, systemic and metabolic disease caused by the long-term interaction of genetic factors and environmental factors. According to the Report on Nutrition and Chronic Diseases of Chinese Residents (2020), the prevalence rate of diabetes among residents aged 18 and above in China is 11.9%, of which type 2 diabetes is the main type, and the prevalence rate of adults over 50 is higher.
During the activity, medical staff gave lectures on diabetes knowledge, health consultation and free blood sugar testing for residents in their jurisdiction. According to experts, long-term hyperglycemia can lead to the damage of tissues and organs such as eyes, nerves, kidneys and cardiovascular systems, resulting in a series of complications, which seriously endanger human health. The risk factors of diabetes are mostly related to unreasonable diet, including long-term high-sugar, high-fat and high-energy diet. Therefore, healthy lifestyle, reasonable diet and active exercise are effective means to prevent and control the occurrence and development of diabetes.
This public welfare activity of diabetes science popularization has been unanimously recognized by residents, who not only learned practical health knowledge, but also improved their health awareness. Chunliu Community will continue to strengthen popular science propaganda of disease prevention and control, actively guide residents to practice a healthy lifestyle, and strive to create a healthy, safe and harmonious community environment for residents.
