On May 20, President Xi sent a telegram to Yakov Miratovic to congratulate him on his appointment as Montenegrin President.

Xi pointed out that China and Montenegro always respect and trust each other and treat each other as equals, and the two peoples appreciate and respect each other. I attach great importance to the development of China-Montenegro relations, and I am willing to work with President Miratovic to inherit and carry forward the profound friendship between the two countries, strengthen the exchange of experience in governing the country, and jointly lead the continuous development of bilateral relations to better benefit the two peoples.
