Geographical overview

 

Dalian is located on the east coast of Eurasia and the southernmost tip of Liaodong Peninsula in Northeast China, between 120 degrees 58 minutes east longitude and 123 degrees 31 minutes north latitude, 38 degrees 43 minutes north latitude and 40 degrees 10 minutes north latitude, bordering the Yellow Sea in the east, Bohai Sea in the west, Shandong Peninsula across the sea in the south and the vast northeast plain in the north. It is the sea gateway of Northeast China, North China, East China and all over the world, and is an important port, trade, industry and tourist city. The total area of the city is 12,574 square kilometers, of which the old urban area is 2,415 square kilometers. There are many mountains and hills in the area, and there are few plains and lowlands. The whole terrain is high in the north and low in the south, wide in the north and narrow in the south; The terrain inclines from the central axis to the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea on the southeast and northwest sides, and the side facing the Yellow Sea is long and gentle. The remaining veins of Qian Shan Mountains in Changbai Mountain run through this area, and most of them are mountains and low hills formed by long-term denudation. Plain lowlands are only sporadically distributed at rivers entering the sea and some mountain valleys; Karst landform can be seen, and karst landform and sea erosion landform are relatively developed.

 

Climate resources

 

Dalian is located in the warm temperate zone in the northern hemisphere, with warm temperate continental monsoon climate with marine characteristics, with no severe cold in winter and no hot summer, and four distinct seasons. The annual average temperature is 10.5 degrees Celsius, the annual precipitation is 550-950 mm, and the total sunshine hours throughout the year are 2500-2800 hours.

 

Water resources

 

Dalian mainly has two major water systems: Yellow Sea Basin and Bohai Sea Basin. The larger rivers injected into the Yellow Sea include Biliu River, Yingna River, Zhuanghe River, Zanzi River, Dasha River, Dengsha River, Qingshui River and Malan River. The main rivers flowing into Bohai Sea include Fuzhou River, Liguan Village River and Sanshilibao River. Among them, the largest river is Biliu River, which is the water source river for inter-basin water diversion in urban areas. In addition, there are more than 200 rivers. The total amount of fresh water resources in Dalian is 3.786 billion cubic meters per year, including 3.42 billion cubic meters of surface water resources and 884 million cubic meters of groundwater resources, with repetitive water resources of 580 million cubic meters.

 

Administrative divisions

 

It now has jurisdiction over 2 county-level cities (Wafangdian City and Zhuanghe City), 1 county (Changhai County) and 7 districts (Zhongshan District, Xigang District, Shahekou District, Ganjingzi District, Lvshunkou District, Jinzhou District and Pulandian District). In addition, there are three national pilot areas for opening to the outside world, namely Jinpu New District, Free Trade Zone and High-tech Industrial Park, as well as Changxing Island Lingang Industrial Zone and Huayuankou Economic Zone.
