Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a video summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Beijing on Tuesday.

Xi Jinping pointed out that in today's world, the changes in the past century and the epidemic situation in the century are intertwined, which brings many global challenges and requires global cooperation. China and the EU share many common languages in seeking peace, development and cooperation. We should take responsibility and inject more stability and certainty into the turbulent and changing world. The two sides should strengthen dialogue and persist in cooperation to promote stable and far-reaching China-EU relations. China's development will bring more space for China-EU cooperation. The two sides should continue to deepen the green and digital partnership and pragmatic cooperation in various fields based on the principle of mutual benefit and win-win. Both sides should continue to adhere to multilateralism and advance major global agendas.

Macron and Scholz expressed their congratulations on China's successful hosting of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Today's world is facing many challenges, and fighting alone will only worsen the situation. The European side attaches importance to China's important and positive role in world affairs and is willing to work closely with China to solve major global challenges such as climate change and public health. The EU is willing to work with China to run the EU-China Leaders' Meeting well and push forward France-China, Germany-China and EU-China relations.

The two sides focused on exchanging views on the current situation in Ukraine.

Macron and Scholz introduced their views and positions on the current situation in Ukraine, saying that Europe is facing the most serious crisis since World War II, and France and Germany support solving problems through negotiations and giving peace a chance. I would like to thank China for its initiative on the humanitarian situation, and I am willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China, persuade peace and promote talks, so as to avoid further escalation of the situation and a more serious humanitarian crisis.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the current situation in Ukraine is worrying, and China deeply deplores the resumption of war on the European continent. China maintains that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be observed, the legitimate security concerns of all countries should be taken seriously, and all efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of the crisis should be supported. It is imperative to avoid escalating tensions or even getting out of control. China appreciates the efforts made by France and Germany to mediate the situation in Ukraine, and is willing to maintain communication and coordination with France, Germany and Europe, and play an active role with the international community according to the needs of all parties concerned.

Xi Jinping emphasized that we should jointly support the Russian-Ukrainian peace talks, push the two sides to maintain the momentum of negotiations, overcome difficulties and talk about results and peace. We would like to call for maximum restraint to prevent a large-scale humanitarian crisis. China has put forward a six-point initiative on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and is willing to provide further humanitarian aid to Ukraine. We should work together to reduce the negative impact of the crisis. The relevant sanctions will have an impact on the stability of global finance, energy, transportation and supply chain, and drag down the world economy under the epidemic situation, which is unfavorable to all parties. We should actively advocate a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept. China supports France and Germany to proceed from Europe's own interests, consider Europe's lasting security, adhere to strategic autonomy, and promote the construction of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework. China is also happy to see equal dialogue between Europe, Russia, the United States and NATO.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi and He Lifeng attended the meeting.
