On the afternoon of January 10, Chinese President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with Maltese President Vella. The two heads of state exchanged New Year greetings.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Malaysia are old friends and good friends who can stand the test of time. Half a century ago, the leaders of the older generation of the two countries were far-sighted and jointly created friendly relations between China and Malaysia. Over the past 50 years, no matter how the international situation changes, China-Malaysia relations have been developing healthily and steadily, the friendship between the two countries has been deepening, and cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results. In the face of challenges such as the international financial crisis and the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, the two sides have always looked out for each other and supported each other. China-Malaysia relations have become a model of relations between countries of different sizes, different social systems and different histories and cultures.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Malaysia will soon celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. China is willing to work with Malaysia to promote greater development of China-Malaysia relations. The two sides should adhere to mutual respect and trust, continue to respect and support each other's chosen development path, and maintain communication and coordination on issues of mutual concern. Deepen pragmatic cooperation, promote the joint construction of the "the belt and road initiative", and expand cooperation in key areas such as economic and trade investment, medical and health care, clean energy, transportation and logistics. Close cultural exchanges and cooperation in Chinese medicine, expand exchanges and cooperation in education, youth, tourism and other fields, and cultivate more new forces of China-Malaysia friendship. Malta has always been a positive force in promoting China-EU relations. China is willing to work with Malaysia to safeguard the general direction of China-EU cooperation and promote the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations.

Xi Jinping emphasized that next month, China will host the Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics, and all preparations are basically ready at present. With the support of the international community, China will host a simple, safe and wonderful Winter Olympics, carry forward the Olympic spirit, and inspire all countries to work together for the future. China is willing to work with the international community including Malta to practice true multilateralism and work together to promote the building of a community with shared future for mankind.

The bilateral relations have matured day by day and made extraordinary achievements, which can be called a model of state-to-state relations. Malaysia is firmly committed to further developing friendly relations between Malaysia and China, and is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with China and deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields. Malaysia cherishes the precious opportunity brought by the joint construction of the "the belt and road initiative" and is willing to continue to promote relevant cooperation with China. It is hoped that Malaysia-China relations will develop better in the next 50 years and bring more benefits to the two peoples. Malaysia firmly adheres to the one-China policy and firmly supports multilateralism. Malaysia is willing to play an active role in promoting the development of EU-China relations. Malaysia highly appreciates China's vaccine assistance to the international community in fighting novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic and its positive contribution to the global response to climate change, and looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China.
