Chinese President Xi Jinping held a video summit with French President Macron and German Chancellor Merkel in Beijing on the evening of the 5th.

Xi Jinping pointed out that at present, the global epidemic situation is still grim and the prospects for economic recovery are unclear. More than ever, the world needs mutual respect and sincere cooperation, instead of suspicion, confrontation and zero-sum game. It is hoped that China and the EU will expand consensus and cooperation and play an important role in properly coping with global challenges.

First, adhere to correct mutual understanding. Over the past 100 years, the Communist Party of China has United and led the Chinese people to open up a development path that conforms to China's national conditions and is generally supported by the people. China adheres to the common values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom of all mankind. China and the EU cooperate on the principle of mutual respect and seeking common ground while reserving differences, and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides brings together the greatest common denominator between them. We should uphold this spirit, correctly view each other's differences, rationally handle each other's differences, and firmly stabilize the direction of China-EU relations.

Second, expand mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation. China is willing to hold the 23rd China-EU Leaders' Meeting with the European side as soon as possible, run high-level dialogues in the fields of strategy, economy, trade, humanities, digital and climate, promote mutual recognition and mutual insurance of listed products between China and Europe, and bring more benefits to the daily lives of the people of both sides. Under the situation of epidemic prevention and control in novel coronavirus pneumonia, the fast track of personnel exchanges has been continuously optimized. China's pace of opening up is unwavering, and it is hoped that the European side will provide a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises in accordance with market principles.

Third, maintain true multilateralism. To safeguard the international system with the United Nations as the core and the basic norms of international relations based on the Charter of the United Nations, international affairs need to be handled calmly and through consultation. China is willing to work with the European side to ensure that the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Kunming and the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change achieve positive results, and jointly guide the reform of the World Trade Organization in the right direction and support each other in running the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Paris Summer Olympics.

Fourth, we should persist in building relations between major powers with overall stability and balanced development. What China wants most is to develop itself, not to replace others. China put forward the "the belt and road initiative" initiative to create more opportunities for common development. China is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with all parties while resolutely defending its sovereignty, security and development interests. It is hoped that the European side will play more active roles in international affairs, truly embody strategic autonomy and jointly safeguard world peace, stability, development and prosperity.

Leaders of the three countries also exchanged views on African issues. Xi pointed out that Africa is the region with the largest concentration of developing countries, the most arduous task of fighting novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic and realizing economic recovery, and it is also the continent with the greatest development potential. China has provided and is providing vaccines to more than 40 African countries and the AU Commission, and actively supports Africa in improving its vaccine localization production capacity. China has signed debt relief agreements or reached consensus with 19 African countries, and constructively participated in sustainable development plans such as the Great Green Wall of Africa. It is hoped that the European side will increase its support and assistance to Africa, provide more vaccines to African countries in urgent need, help Africa cope with debt pressure, and realize African economic recovery and green and low-carbon development at an early date. We welcome France and Germany to join the "Partnership for Africa's Development Initiative" jointly launched by China and Africa, and carry out tripartite, quadripartite or multi-party cooperation.

Macron said that China has made great achievements in development in the past few decades, and France is committed to continuing to promote cooperation with China in a pragmatic manner, supporting the conclusion of EU-China investment agreements, strengthening people-to-people exchanges, and welcoming Chinese enterprises to invest in France. France is willing to continue to maintain communication with China on WTO reform, climate change and biodiversity protection, and support the success of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Kunming and the 7th World Conservation Congress in Marseille. France appreciates China's important role in providing fair access to vaccines for developing countries and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China. The French side spoke highly of China's efforts to implement the G20 debt relief initiative, and is willing to continue to strengthen coordination with China on issues such as financing and education for Africa.

Merkel expressed congratulations on overcoming the impact of the epidemic and realizing economic recovery and development. It is very important for leaders of Germany, France and China to maintain exchanges. Germany is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China on promoting fair production and distribution of vaccines and resuming personnel and trade exchanges. EU-China relations are very important. There are many consensuses and areas for cooperation between the two sides. We should respect each other and reduce differences by strengthening dialogue. Germany supports the convening of the 23rd EU-China Leaders' Meeting as soon as possible and hopes that the EU-China Investment Agreement will be ratified as soon as possible. Germany hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in international affairs, is willing to continue to maintain communication with China on climate change, biodiversity, Africa's response to the epidemic and other issues, and is willing to actively study and join the "Partnership Initiative for Supporting Africa's Development" proposed by China and Africa.

The leaders of the three countries also exchanged views on Iran's nuclear issue, Afghanistan and Myanmar.
