Chinese President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with Fiji Prime Minister Bainimarama on June 24.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Fiji was the first pacific island country to establish diplomatic relations with New China. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 46 years ago, China-Fiji relations have made great progress. An important experience is that both sides have always supported each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns. China respects Fiji's independent exploration of a development path suited to its national conditions, and is willing to work with Fiji to push China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level, better benefit the two peoples and jointly safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

Xi emphasized that after the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia, China and Fiji helped each other in the same boat and joined hands to fight the epidemic, and the friendship and cooperation between the two countries continued to deepen. China is willing to continue to provide vaccines and other support for Fiji in fighting the epidemic, and will set up a China-Pacific Island Countries Emergency Material Reserve to help Fiji and other island countries improve their ability to cope with major public health incidents and natural disasters. China is willing to strengthen strategic docking with Fiji, build a "the belt and road initiative", deepen cooperation in trade and investment, infrastructure, transportation and communication, tourism and other fields, and continue to implement projects such as fungus and grass and agricultural technology cooperation to help Fiji's economic and social development. China will continue to support Fiji in improving its ability to cope with climate change.

Bainimarama expressed warm congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Under the visionary and strong leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has achieved great development achievements and played an important leading role in the world. I would like to thank China for providing valuable support to Fiji in fighting the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic. Fiji firmly adheres to the one-China policy, upholds an objective and fair position on issues involving Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang, and will not do anything that harms China's interests. Fiji is willing to strengthen exchanges with China, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and close communication and cooperation in international affairs. Building a "the belt and road initiative" has broad prospects and will bring important opportunities for cooperation between Fiji and China, and Fiji will continue to actively participate.
