Chinese President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Raleigh on the evening of March 16.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Trinidad and Tobago is an important partner of China in the Caribbean. After the outbreak in novel coronavirus pneumonia, China and Special Administrative Region helped each other in the same boat. Trinidad and Tobago is the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to donate anti-epidemic materials to China, and China also provides anti-epidemic materials and technical assistance to Trinidad and Tobago through various channels. China is willing to strengthen vaccine cooperation with Trinidad and Tobago and continue to support Trinidad and Tobago in fighting the epidemic. Trinidad and Tobago took the lead in co-constructing "the belt and road initiative" among Caribbean countries. China is willing to deepen traditional friendship with Trinidad and Tobago, consolidate cooperation in traditional fields such as energy, telecommunications and infrastructure, actively expand cooperation in new fields such as new energy, digital economy and interconnection, and push China-Trinidad and Tobago comprehensive cooperative partnership to a new level.

Xi Jinping emphasized that this year marks the 50th anniversary of China's resumption of its legitimate seat in the United Nations. China will not forget Trinidad and Tobago's valuable support and appreciates Trinidad and Tobago's support for China's legitimate position on issues related to Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Taiwan. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Trinidad and Tobago in international and multilateral affairs, safeguard the common interests of developing countries and promote the building of a community with shared future for mankind. It is hoped that Trinidad and Tobago will continue to play an active role in promoting the development of China's relations with Caribbean countries and the overall cooperation between China and Latin America.

Raleigh warmly congratulated the CPC on its 100th anniversary. He said that the Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people to achieve great achievements that have attracted worldwide attention in the fields of economy, science and technology and poverty alleviation. Under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping, China took the lead in successfully responding to the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak. At the same time, China provides valuable support and assistance to the economic and social development of other countries in the world and plays an important leading role in the international community's fight against the epidemic. The Communist Party of China should be proud of itself. Trinidad and Tobago's relations with China are based on equality and friendship. Trinidad and Tobago firmly abides by the one-China principle and is committed to strengthening cooperation with China in various fields and communicating closely on regional affairs. Trinidad and Tobago is willing to actively promote the joint construction of "the belt and road initiative" with China.
