On the evening of 22nd, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with European Council President Michel and European Commission President von der Laing via video in Beijing.

Xi Jinping pointed out that since the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia, China and the EU have supported and helped each other. China is willing to work hand in hand with Europe to push China-EU relations to a more stable and mature level in the 'post-epidemic era'.

Xi Jinping stressed that China is not only an ancient country with a long history, but also a dynamic developing country. China wants peace, not hegemony. The starting point of all our policies and work is to make the Chinese people live a happy life. We will unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development. China is an opportunity, not a threat. China will continue to deepen its reform and expand its opening up, which will provide Europe with a new round of cooperation opportunities and development space. China is a partner, not an opponent. There is no conflict of fundamental interests between China and Europe. Cooperation far outweighs competition and consensus far outweighs differences. The two sides should respect each other, seek common ground while reserving differences, be harmonious but different, continuously enhance mutual understanding and trust, expand common interests in cooperation, solve difficult problems in development, and build a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Europe with more world influence.

Xi Jinping stressed that the world under the impact of the epidemic is undergoing profound changes and is facing more unstable and uncertain factors. I once suggested that we should try our best to cultivate new opportunities in the crisis and open new opportunities in the changing situation. This also applies to China-EU relations. As the world's two major forces, two major markets and two major civilizations, China and Europe advocate, oppose and cooperate with each other, which is of world significance.

China and Europe should be the two major forces to maintain global peace and stability. China is willing to exchange views with the European side on major issues. It believes that the EU will continue to move forward in the direction of unity, stability, openness and prosperity. It is happy that the European side has made constructive contributions to international peace and stability. It is willing to strengthen strategic cooperation with the European side and jointly deal with global challenges.

China and Europe should be the two major markets to promote global development and prosperity. The two major economies of China and Europe should play the role of 'double engines' of the world economy, stimulate the recovery of the world economy, jointly support scientific and orderly resumption of work and production, strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination, and maintain the stability and smoothness of the global industrial chain supply chain. The two sides should keep each other's markets open, accelerate the negotiation of China-EU investment agreements, strengthen China-EU cooperation in green and digital fields, and build a green development partner. The two sides should strengthen tripartite cooperation with Africa.

China and Europe should be two major civilizations that adhere to multilateralism and improve global governance. No matter how the international situation changes, China will stand on the side of multilateralism and adhere to the concept of global governance of joint construction and sharing through consultation. China appreciates the EU's firm maintenance of multilateralism, its participation in international anti-epidemic cooperation, and its increased investment in WHO and other international agencies. China is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the EU on major international and regional issues, strengthen dialogue and cooperation on global public health governance, and promote the construction of a human health community.

Xi Jinping stressed that I am willing to maintain close communication with the two presidents to push forward a series of major political agendas between China and Europe and push China-EU relations to a new level.

Michel and von der Laing said that as the world's two largest economies, the relationship between Europe and China is full of vitality. At present, the world is facing great uncertainty. Only international cooperation can meet global challenges. Only dialogue and consultation can resolve conflicts and eliminate regional instability. The European side is willing to carry out strategic dialogue with China and expand consensus with a frank attitude. The European side is willing to strengthen cooperation with China on vaccine research and development, resumption of work and production, expand the scale of bilateral trade, promote more progress in cooperation in a wide range of fields such as green and low carbon, digital economy, etc., reach an EU-China investment agreement as soon as possible, and make efforts to overcome the impact of the epidemic as soon as possible and promote the recovery of the world economy. The European side adheres to multilateralism and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China on major issues such as public health and security, climate change, sustainable development and tripartite cooperation with Africa within the framework of the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and the Group of Twenty. The European side is willing to work with China to push forward the success of the major political agenda agreed between the EU and China.

Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others attended the meeting.
