Applying for Residence Permit

Materials Required:

1. A valid passport and visa;

2. Letter from the employer;

3. Certificate for accommodation registration;

4. Certificate of health;

5. Two recent 2-inch carnet color photos of bareheaded full-face i image.

Please Note: Additional materials may be required in different cities/provinces, please consult the local Public Security Bureau.

For employees working in Dalian and their family member(s), the following are also required:

a. Employment permit and employment registration form (except board presidents and vice-presidents);
b. Business license (registration certificate);
c. Certificate(s) of kinship provided by the family member(s).

For experts and their family member(s), the following are also required:

a. Expert Card;
b. Certificate(s) of kinship provided by family member(s).

For foreign students, the following are also required:

a. Either JW201 or JW202 form;
b. Examination-approval form for off-campus accommodation (if the applicant wants to live outside campus).

For journalists and their family member(s), the following are also required:

a. Journalist card;
b. An official letter from the Journalism Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal Government;
c. Certificate(s) of kinship supplied by family member(s).

For a consulate's non-official employees, the following are also required:

a. A verbal note from the consulate;
b. An official letter from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal Government.

For applications of family members (independent), the following is also required:

a. A valid residence permit for personnel working in Shanghai.

Note: The applicant shall handle the application in person if applying for residence permit.
