A few days ago, 2017 National (Zhangjiagang) Competition of Public Square Dancing, with the theme of “dancing-for-all and health-in-China”, concluded at the gymnasium of Jiangsu University of Science & Technology (Zhangjiagang). The competition was hosted by China Association of Social Sports Centre of General Administration of Sport and was undertaken by China Association of Social Sports Instructor, National Promotion Committee of Public Square Dancing and Jiangsu Province Social Sports Management Centre. As the only competition team selected by Dalian Sports Bureau, Zhongshan district dance troupe of cultural centre took part in the competition held in Zhangjiagang and won the first prize. The team will participate in the final competition held in Hainan on November.
Involving many provinces across China, 2017 National Competition of Public Square Dancing will last for 5 months, which is a competition of public square dancing with the biggest scale and the highest level in China. Zhangjiagang was the sixth as well as the last station of the competition. 540 athletes of 29 teams took part in the 2-day competition, the top 8 teams of which gained qualification toward the final competition.
Since 2016, Zhongshan district has implemented promoted construction of mass culture, carried out evaluation of star-level teams and focused on supporting outstanding plays, amateur art teams and public square dancing teams. The district has also established incentive mechanism, encouraged teams to strive for the best, carried out fitness-for-all activities and continued to create the sports brand of “healthy Zhongshan”. As a popular fitness program, public square dancing has been led to develop toward a normative, civilized and scientific path, so that the masses can enjoy happiness in fitness and the culture of public square dancing can be demonstrated and passed down.
