2019-11-21

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Hope Project. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, recently sent remarks on the Hope Project. He pointed out: Under the leadership of the CPC, the Hope Project, which has been implemented for 30 years, has focused on the goal of education for students, taken root in the tradition of respecting teachers and valuing education, innovated the social mobilization mechanism, built a bridge of love, mutual assistance, and transmission, and helped millions of young people from poor families realize their dream of going to school and become pillars of efforts on all fronts in the construction of the motherland. Hope Project has played an important role in helping poverty alleviation, promoting the development of education, serving the growth of young people and leading the social fashion.

Xi Jinping stressed that the healthy growth of young people is the future of the country and the nation. Entering a new era, the Communist Youth League should do a better job in the Hope Project, and strive to provide new impetus and sow new hope for young people. The whole party and society should continue to pay attention to and support Hope Project, so that the vast number of young people can fully feel the care of the party and the warmth of the big socialist family, and strive to grow into socialist builders and successors.

The Hope Project was launched by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the China Youth Development Foundation in 1989, with the mission of improving basic education facilities in poor areas and helping out-of-school young people in poor areas to return to school as public welfare undertakings. As of September 2019, the National Hope Project has received a total of 15.229 billion yuan in donations, subsidizing 5.9942 million students from economically disadvantaged families and assisting in the construction of 20,195 Hope Primary Schools.
