Xi Jinping Sents a Reply to the Majority of Teachers and Students of Agriculture-related Colleges and Universities in China: Taking Morality Cultivati

Beijing, Sep. 6 (Xinhua)— Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, state president, and chairman of the Central Military Commission , wrote back on September 5 to the secretaries, presidents, and experts representatives of agriculture-related colleges and universities in China, setting forth requirements for the direction of running agriculture-related colleges and universities, and encouraging and expecting teachers and students.


Xi Jinping pointed out that since the founding of New China 70 years ago, agriculture-related colleges and universities in China have made positive contributions to the development of the cause of agriculture, rural areas and farmers by keeping in mind their mission of running schools, carefully cultivating talented people, and strengthening scientific research and innovation.


Xi Jinping stressed, “ China’s modernization cannot be separated from the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, and the key to the modernization of agriculture and rural areas lies in science and technology and talents. In the new era, the countryside is a field full of hope and the vast stage of entrepreneurship. China’s higher education in agriculture and forestry has great potential. I hope that you will continue to base your efforts on the cultivation of morality, take it as our duty to strengthen agriculture and rejuvenate it, bring out more scientific and technological achievements, train more new-type talents who know agriculture and love agriculture, make new and greater contributions to the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, ensure national food security, improve the living standards and ideological and moral quality of hundreds of millions of farmers, promote the management of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes and grass systems, win the battle against poverty, and promote the all-round revitalization of rural areas.”


Recently, more than 100 secretaries, presidents, and agricultural and forestry experts from more than 50 agriculture-related colleges and universities in China wrote to General Secretary Xi Jinping to report on the discussions held in Anji, Zhejiang Province, about the subject construction of agriculture and forestry in the new era. On behalf of 1.3 million teachers and students in agriculture and forestry, they expressed their determination to shoulder the mission of rejuvenating agriculture and serving the country and make unswerving efforts to realize agricultural and rural modernization.
