Beijing, Sep. 4 (Xinhua)— On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the China Foreign Affairs Bureau, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, state president, and chairman of the Central Military Commission, sent a congratulatory letter to all the cadres and workers of the China Foreign Affairs Bureau who have worked hard on the front line of international communication, and to foreign experts and friends who care about and support China’s international communication cause.
In his congratulatory letter, Xi Jinping pointed out that over the past 70 years, the China Foreign Affairs Bureau has publicized China’s development and changes in an all-round way, actively promoted friendly exchanges between China and foreign countries, and played an important role in telling Chinese stories and spreading the sound of China.
Xi Jinping stressed that under the new situation, China has increasingly close ties with the world. It is hoped that the Chinese Foreign Affairs Bureau will take the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Bureau as a new starting point, grasp the general trend of the times, carry forward the fine traditions, adhere to positive innovation, accelerate integrated development, constantly improve international communication capacity and level, strive to build a world-class international communication organization with strong comprehensive strength, better introduce China in the new era to the world, better present a true, three-dimensional and comprehensive China, and make new and greater contributions to China’s entry into the world and the world’s understanding of China.
On the morning of September 4, a forum was held in Beijing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Bureau of Foreign Affairs of China. Huang Kunming, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and minister of Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, read out Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter and made a speech. He said that the congratulatory letter from General Secretary Xi Jinping, reflecting the great importance attached by the CPC Central Committee to the publicity work, expectations and instructions to the China Foreign Affairs Bureau. We should carry forward the fine traditions, adhere to the principles of innovation and take on the responsibilities of mission, spread Xi Jinping’s thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era wider, deeper and farther, and show new achievements in telling the Chinese stories of the new era, promoting exchanges and mutual learning, and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

The predecessor of the China Foreign Affairs Bureau was the International Information Office of the General Administration of Information of the Central People’s Government, which was established on October 1, 1949. After 70 years of development, the China Foreign Affairs Bureau has 26 offices in 14 countries and regions, publishes more than 4,000 books in more than 40 languages each year, edits 34 periodicals in 13 languages, and distributes books and periodicals to more than 180 countries and regions around the world, with an online audience spread all over the world.
