Why Xi Jinping Mentioned the Cooks in the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee?

[ Learning Is Going on] “Only by not forgetting the initial heart, remembering the mission, and always striving, can the CPC remain young forever”. At present, the theme education of “not forgetting the beginning, remembering the mission” is being carried out throughout the Party. Learning Is Going on, issued by Xinhua, launched a series of interpretations around the story of “not forgetting the original heart” mentioned by General Secretary Xi Jinping, and today published Why Xi Jinping Mentioned the Cooks in the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee?

Since the 19th National Congress of the CPC, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee has conducted 16 collective studies. During each study, General Secretary Xi Jinping and comrades of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee will listen to experts’ explanations and suggestions on the most pressing tasks and issues that need to be grasped most. Xi Jinping will also deliver an important speech when conducting the study.

During his sixth group study, Xi Jinping told the Red Army’s Long March: When crossing the grass, the cooks got up and asked whether they had any rice to cook today, but first asked their heading.

Those who understand the history of the Long March are well aware that the question of “their heading” here is not a matter of military tactics, but of the direction of action.

Our party is an armed Marxist political party. General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that the political construction of the party is the fundamental construction of the party. We should put it in the first place and be under its leadership. In the political construction of the Party, the quasi-political direction is the prerequisite and basic requirement.

During a group study at the Politburo, Xi Jinping referred to the cooks in the Long March, meaning very clearly: “In the Red Army, even a cooker knows that the question of direction is more important than what to eat.”

The political direction is the first issue for the survival and development of the Party, which is related to the future and destiny of the Party and the success or failure of its cause. Xi Jinping stressed in earnest that any deviation in direction would lead to subversive mistakes. We must have a very clear understanding of this.

Today, the political direction we must adhere to is the lofty ideal of communism and the common ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The “Two Centenary Goals” are the Party’s basic theory, basic line and basic strategy.

Emphasizing the political construction of the Party, Xi Jinping put forward three “needs” in this study from the perspective of quasi-political orientation. Party members and cadres must thoroughly understand and resolutely implement these three “needs”:

—Strengthening the party’s political construction means giving full play to the role of a political compass, guiding the whole party to firm its ideals and beliefs, strengthen its “four self-confidence”, clear up ideological fog, clarify vague understanding, remove all kinds of interference, and rally the wisdom and strength of the whole party to the great cause of upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era;

—Strengthening the party’s political construction means urging the whole Party to implement the correct political orientation in the practice of planning major strategies, formulating major policies, deploying major tasks and promoting major work; constantly calibrate deviations in time and resolutely correct deviations from and violations of the Party’s political direction so as to ensure that all undertakings of the Party and the state always develop in the correct political direction;

—Strengthening the party’s political construction means building Party organizations at all levels into strong fighting fortresses adhering to the correct political direction, and educate the broad masses of Party members and cadres to unswervingly advance in the correct political direction.
