Beijing, July 24 (Xinhua)--At about 21:20 on July 23, a major landslide occurred in the Chagou Formation of Pingdi Village, Jichang Town, Shuicheng County, Liupanshui, Guizhou Province, the west of Guizhou, resulting in the burial of 21 houses. So far, 11 people have been killed and 42 are still missing.
After the disaster, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, president of the state, and chairman of the Central Military Commission, attached great importance to and issued important directives, demanding that all efforts be made to search for and rescue the trapped people, treat the wounded, resettle the affected people, and pacify the families of the victims. We should pay attention to the scientific rescue, do a good job of monitoring the dangerous situation, and prevent secondary disasters. Xi Jinping stressed that since the flood season this year, some localities have experienced heavy rainfall, severe flood control situations, and many hidden dangers of natural calamity. Relevant departments in all localities and regions should, in the spirit of being extremely responsible to the people, actively organize efforts to conscientiously investigate hidden dangers, strengthen forecasting and early warning, strengthen disaster prevention, earnestly implement their work responsibilities, and protect the lives and property of the people.
Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and premier of the State Council, issued an instruction to make every effort to reduce casualties, comprehensively investigate hidden dangers in the surrounding areas, and do a good job of preventing new geological disasters and secondary disasters. The Emergency Management Department, together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and other departments, shall send a joint working group to the site to guide and assist the local authorities in doing a good job of rescue. At present, it is at a critical stage of the main flood season, and we should supervise and urge all localities to draw inferences from each other and conscientiously strengthen the prevention and control of mountain torrents, landslides, debris flows, and other disasters.
According to Xi Jinping’s instructions and Li Keqiang’s request, the Ministry of Emergency Management and the Ministry of Natural Resources have sent a joint working group to guide rescue and disaster relief work locally, and the State Health Commission has dispatched a national emergency medical rescue team to the disaster areas to carry out medical treatment. Rescue forces have been carried out in Liupanshui, Guizhou Province, such as emergency response, public security, natural resources, and health on site. At present, all work is proceeding in an intense and orderly manner.
