Tan Chengxu Met with Japanese Guests of Dalian Sophora Viewing Festival

Yesterday, Tan Chengxu, deputy secretary of Dalian Municipal Party Committee and mayor, met with the Japanese guests attending the 29th Dalian Sophora Viewing Festival and the Northeastern Asia International Tourism Culture Week respectively and exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral friendly exchanges and cooperation .Yi Qingtao, secretary-general of Dalian Municipal Government, was present at the meeting.The meeting was attended by more than 50 Japanese guests, including Megumi Okamoto, Administrative Officer of Minister of Foreign Affairs, delegations from Okayama Prefecture, Hiroshima Prefecture, Shimane Prefecture, and Niigata Prefecture and Kitakomae and East Japan Railway Co., Ltd., Hiroshi Murakami, Mayor of Ipoh City.

Tan Chengxu welcomed Japanese guests to participate in those activities, and introduced the economic development of our city. He said that Dalian and Japan are close to each other and there are many opportunities for business cooperation.

In recent years, the economic and trade contact between the two regions expand continuously. Japan has invested in more than 4,700 companies in Dalian, with an actual investment of 18.5 billion dollars. In 2017, Dalian's import and export trade with Japan increased by 15.9% year-on-year. Exchanges in the fields of education and culture have also been on increase day by day.  "Jianeng Cup," a Japanese speech contest, was successfully held for 28 sessions, which has trained a large number of Japanese talents for Dalian.  Youth exchanges have become an important activity for fostering friendly career successors.

Moreover, mutual visits between Dalian and Japan have become more frequent. Now, Dalian have 7 direct flights or charter flights to Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Toyama, and Kitakyushu, with 120 flights a week. Nearly 6,000 Japanese maintain a permanet presence in Dalian.

Tan Chengxu said at the meeting that this year marks the 40th anniversary of China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty and also marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. In the speech of the Boao Forum for Asia, President Xi Jinping emphasized that China’s opening up will never be closed, but open bigger and bigger. We will adhere to the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness, and sharing, strive to achieve new breakthrough in the development of a higher level of open economy, and build a bridgehead for opening up in Northeastern Asia. We sincerely hope that we can consolidate the foundation and create a better future, further deepen the cooperation, expand cooperation fields, enhance cooperation level, promote cultural exchanges, and achieve win-win development.

During the meeting, Japanese guests wished the 29th Dalian Sophora Viewing Festival & Northeastern Asia International Tourism Culture Week a complete success. They said that they will further strengthen cooperation with Dalian, and close people’s exchanges, especially between young people, so that the friendship between Japan and China can last from generation to generation.
