China’s first reefer container block train opens in Dalian Port

Yesterday morning at 18 past ten, with a long siren, a reefer container block train loaded with fresh vegetables and fruits sailed out of Railway Center of Dalian Port, which marked the first cross-border reefer container block train of China was put into use in Dalian Port. Since then, the brand new logistics channel for stable, highly efficient and convenient trade of refrigeration products between China and Russia has been established.

It is reported that the whole journey of this cross-border train reaches 8600 kilometers, which would last for about 10 days. This train was loaded with such goods as Hebei pears, Guangdong pomelo and Shandong garlic in Weifang City, Shandong Province and reached Dalian Port along the circum-Bohai-sea internal branch line. Compared with previous ocean and rail transportation, the reefer container train can save more than 60% transportation time. Dalian Port, as the only one port enlisted in the national overall planning of “One Belt and One Road” in Northeastern China, has successively launched cross-border block trains including the three-star block train from Dalian to Russia's kaluga, the transit train from Dalian to Minsk and the return train from Russian Novosiberia to Dalian. On July 20, the commodity block train from Dalian to Moscow opened, providing special customized service for the export of high-end vehicles of Great Wall Motor to Russia.

In recent years, China has witnessed a rapid growth in refrigerated products exported to Russia and in 2015 the amount of fresh products from Manzhouli Port to Russia reached 400 thousand tons. Due to the limitation of transport capacity, many goods have to be sold to the far east region of Russia but hardly to its core parts like Mosco. Dalian Port opened China’s first cross-border reefer container block train by constructing Dalian Northeast Asia International Shipping Center, actively cooperating with China Railway Group and Russian Railways, integrating resources and tackling with a series of problems after opening China’s first reefer container block train on March 16 this year. In the future, Dalian Port will further transport the refrigerated goods from Southeast Asia to Russia and Europe to achieve interoperability of countries along the “One Belt and One Road”.
